August Favourites 2015

It's quite rare that I do a monthly favourites post, and I'm not promising one every month. But during August, there have been lots of things that I've been loving regarding fashion, beauty, music and just life in general! So, here are my August favourites.

We'll start with fashion. I love a nice summer dress as they're so easy to throw on, looking pretty whilst keep you cool in the hot weather. My favourite one has been this navy and white stripy dress from H&M. It's so simple, but the criss-cross back & change of stripes adds a little extra. I saw this last year and never got round to buying it, so I was so glad they brought it back this year!

One trend I loved seeing this summer was sunglasses with coloured mirror lenses and I was so happy when I found these rose gold aviators from Next for just £12. They really make a statement and add a pop of colour and style to your outfit. I also find that the rose gold compliments my hair & skin tone more than a blue pair would. Fun fact: I even saw a picture of Kendall Jenner rocking a similar pair earlier this month, so that's cool (although they were probably a lot more expensive than mine!).

Moving on to beauty, earlier this month I finally got round to getting my eyebrows done - they were seriously in need of a tidy up! Now that their tidier and have a better shape, I've been filling them in all month and they look so much better and more defined. The product I've been using is the Eyelure Brow Pencil in No 20 Mid Brown, as my sister uses the blonde one and said it was really good. After testing it out for a few weeks, I agree! If you prefer to just lightly fill in your brows, this is for you as it's easy to control how much you apply. There is also a brush on the opposite end, so it's a very useful product.

I've also been loving the Maybelline Fit Me powder, you can find a review here but to sum it up, it sets your make up without looking cakey and comes with a mirror & applicator, so it's great for on the go! As well as that, I've been wearing the Bourjois Aqua Laque lip gloss in Appechissant. It's a glossy formula that's quite pigmented and a nice dark pink colour, but still quite bright.

A lifestyle/homeware favourite of mine has been this quote block which I got when I was on holiday. I have quote around my room: on my pinboard, or as little signs and I put this block on my dressing table. I love it because you can turn it around and on every side there's a cute, positive quote. How lovely.

Two albums I've been playing this month are Years and Years - Communion and Fifth Harmony - Reflection. They're both quite different, but I enjoy them equally.

What have you loved this month?

High Street Picks - Autumn 2015

It's the end of summer now, and the shops are starting to fill up with clothes for the colder months. I don't know about you, but Autumn and Winter fashion is definitely my favourite. I love the warmer colours, the cosy jumpers and layering up. I've been paying attention to A/W trends, and have put together wishlist-style post with ways you can add elements of designer inspiration into your everyday wardrobes thanks to the fabulous shops on the high street. A lot of these items are quite basic, so it would be easy to pair them with things, mix and match, and maintain a casual but on-trend look. Obviously it's important to have your own style, but it's fun to join in with trends as well. These are my picks from New Look, River Island and H&M...

New Look's A/W 2015 range is so impressive this year. They have items in this some of this seasons hottest colours: burgundy and camel. Khaki was all over the place throughout summer, and it's here to stay during Autumn as well. The leather-look skirt is perfect for the colder months and would look great with tights and black ankle boots. As for tops, polo necks are everywhere and in different styles and thicknesses; notice the back jumper and the grey top, which you could even wear together for extra warmth. Blouses are a great staple as well, like this cream pussy-bow blouse (which also comes in black and burgundy!). Most of the items here come in different colours to suit everyone.

River Island has become one of my favourite shops, and proves that the 70's revival isn't going anywhere with clothes such as the three dresses, the black and white blouses, and the suede items on the left. Those items make it fairly easy to incorporate 70's style to your wardrobe without overdoing it. The boho/seventies dress in the middle is a rusty orange/red - another popular colour for A/W 2015. I love the checkered wrap shirt as it takes a more feminine approach to the checkered shirt, and the colours make it very autumnal. Lastly, the printed trousers are great for adding some colour to rainy autumn days!

For H&M, its a mix of preppy, Seventies and casual. I love H&M for their jumpers; these three are my favourites as dark green is perfect for autumn/winter, and the two blue ones remind me of Taylor Swift and PLL's Spencer Hastings (yes I know she's a TV character, but I love her style anyway). The beautiful wrap, printed top and gold jewellery are a few examples of H&M's Seventies collection. We also have an element of the sixties with the hounds-tooth skirt. Capes are a stylish alternative to a jacket or coat, the black one is gorgeous. Not forgetting the smart cigarette trousers, the blouse, the leather-look trousers and the brown checkered jacket - H&M is a great place to go for Autumn & Winter fashion.

What shops are you loving at the moment? Are you excited for warmer clothes, or do you prefer dressing for summer?

The Beach

As it's summer, I've been spending a fair amount of time at the beach. I love it. I've grown to love it more than I ever have.

It's a place to have fun, splash about in the sea and party. When friends, families etc come together for a fun day at the beach on a glorious summer's day. On the other hand, it's also a place to relax, find something to read and chill out. My favourite thing to do is walk along the beach; there's something so peaceful and calming about about watching and listening to the waves coming in and out. It's a wonderful place to walk, let go and clear your mind.

Although there's more to do on the beach in the summer, I've found that it can be fun on colder days. You can't really paddle and catch a tan, but you can still visit and walk by the sea. The cold, crisp air as the wind blows can be quite refreshing. A few years ago, my Dad took my 3 siblings and I to the seaside on Christmas Eve! It rained, it was freezing, but it was so much fun and a day that I will remember for a long time.

Living in the UK, I feel so lucky that we have a coastline with lovely beaches surrounding us that aren't too far way. Be it a sunny day or a gloomy day, I think both are nice. However, I hope I get the chance to visit other (slightly warmer!) beaches around the world as I get older - California, South of France, Spain, Greece... the list goes on!

Do you like the beach? Whether you're from the UK or not, where is your favourite place to go?

Maybelline Review - Fit Me Powder & Lash Sensational Mascara

Maybelline are such a great drugstore brand: good quality products at affordable prices. I recently bought two products from the brand and after testing them out for a few weeks, it's time for a review!

I was so bored of using Rimmel's Stay Matte powder, and didn't want a powder that was mattifying any more so I decided to try out the Maybelline Fit Me Powder. So far I'm impressed! It sets my make up and leaves a nice, dewy finish that doesn't look cakey. It also comes with a compact mirror and powder applicator, so it's great for on-the-go touch ups. Despite the packaging being slightly bulky, it really helps to protect the powder and prevent cracks. Overall, a really good powder. I'd love to try the concealer from the Fit Me range as well.

Maybelline mascaras receive a lot of good attention, and their newest release is no exception! In fact, this is my second tube of the Lash Sensational mascara. Can you tell that I like it? This is such a good mascara that lengthens the lashes and gives them volume, without looking clumpy at all. This coats my lashes evenly and the shape of the wand reminds me of Benefit's Roller Lash. If you're looking for a cheaper alternative to the Benefit mascara, this would be it. There's not much more I can say about this mascara!

A short but sweet review of products from one of the best brands from the drugstore. What are your favourite products from the brand, and is there anything that you would like to try?

Worrying will never change the outcome..

People can spend a lot of time worrying, but it won't do much help. Yes, it shows you care, but more time could be spent trying to solve a situation rather than worrying. On the other hand, if nothing can be done, it's best not to worry at all because it just causes unnecessary stress. Do something healthy to calm you down: talk it out, write it down, go for a walk, read a book, listen to music, have a cup of tea or treat yourself to something nice. And, when you're ready, try and tackle what's worrying you head on. Some worries can't be stopped overnight, but baby steps are so important. In fact, if you're already trying, the first step is complete.

Whatever's meant to happen will happen, Worrying will never change the outcome, but doing something about it or letting it go can help a lot.

Blogger Chats

Over the last few weeks I've become involved with blogger chats over on Twitter, they're such a good way to connect with other bloggers and share your opinions. Nearly every chat has a series of questions on a certain topic to do with blogging, so also learn about what other people think. As well as that, blogger chats are a great way to promote your blog and give you something to do if you're bored in the evenings! For any bloggers who have never taken part in blogger chats, here's a list of my favourite chats...

#fbloggers - Every Monday from 8:00 - 9:00pm UK time. This is where the fashion bloggers come together for a chat and share their most recent fashion posts. Every chat has a different host and topic: this weeks one being fashion magazines.

#fblchat - Is where the fashion, beauty and lifestyle bloggers come together, every Tuesday from 8:00 - 9:00pm UK time.

#healthyselves - This chat is great because their topics always focus around health; physically and mentally. It's very positive and great for inspiration and motivation.  This also takes place on Mondays between 8pm and 9pm UK time.

#lbloggers - Lifestyle bloggers! Every Wednesday and Sunday 7-8pm UK time.

#bbloggers - Straight after #lbloggers on a Wednesday and Sunday, the #bbloggers chat takes place from 8-9pm. There are questions to do with beauty as usual, but there's also a way to find even more recommendations for products if the posts themselves aren't enough!

#crazybloggers - Fun topics every Thursday 7-8pm UK time.

#bdib - Stands for 'blogs do it better'. A general chat every Friday 8-9pm UK time.

There you have it: a list of blog chats for nearly every evening of the week. You don't have to join all of them if you don't want to because we all have lives outside of blogging and sometimes we'd rather have some time to ourselves. However, they're there if you're interested as everyone is so welcoming to new bloggers joining these chats. I'll see you on Twitter!

Style Is Eternal - Farfetch Competition Entry

I've never done anything like this on my blog before, but when Farfetch - an online designer shop - reached out to me asking if I'd like to take a part in their competition, I said yes! It seems like a great opportunity and a fun way to incorporate a little bit of luxury into my blog. I love looking at designers in magazines etc, and take an interest in Fashion Week whenever it comes around. You can look at the trends the brands have started on the catwalks, and keep them in mind when shopping for inspiration.

This competition is all about the iconic brand Yves Saint Laurent and the Saint Laurent Fashion House, inspired by the designer's famous quote "Fashion Fades, Style Is Eternal". To celebrate the opening of the Yves Saint Laurent: Style Is Eternal exhibition at the Bowes museum, Farfetch have asked me to create a timeless look to go with the iconic Saint Laurent Le Smoking Jacket. This is a black blazer jacket, which I think is a wardrobe staple for any fashion-forward person as it can be dressed up or down, smart or casual - anytime of year, season after season. Here's what I created..

As well as creating a look that's timeless and universal, I wanted to reflect my personal style as well; which is is rather feminine and preppy. But given the colour (or lack of colour) in this look, I think it could suit a range of styles.

One of my favourite outfit combinations is a skirt with a button-up shirt. It makes you look effortlessly put together. I opted for a star print black shirt instead of plain black to add a bit of detail, and not make the outfit look too heavy. I fell in love with this star pattern, it would look amazing in the evening. I paired the shirt with a simple black skirt: another wardrobe staple in my opinion. The perfect choice of footwear for this look would be black ankle boots. I chose these stiletto ankle boots. To add a bit of shine to this outfit, I picked the baby 'Monogram' cross body bag which also matched the star print on the blouse. I couldn't have a look from a designer brand without a handbag.

That's my entry for this competition, mixing masculine with feminine for a timeless outfit as the lines between men and women's style become more blurred over time. The fact that you can alter the items in this outfit, like changing the print of the shirt or style of shoe, makes it suitable for anyone. Everyone has their own style.

I'd like to thank Farfetch for choosing me for this competition, and I wish good luck to anyone else that has entered! Don't forget to leave a comment telling what you think of this outfit.

How I Keep Motivated With Blogging

When it comes to blogging, motivation plays a key part. You have to use it along with your creativity to produce content that you are happy with, as well as your audience. I'll admit it, I've had waves of motivation with my blog over the last few years. Life can get in the way, or you simply lose your creative spark for while. Something clicks, and you get it back. I feel more confident than ever with my blog now, and I've collected a list of ways to stay motivated which is easy to follow. If these points have helped me, I hope they can help anyone else who is struggling with blogger's block...

1. Read other blogs regularly. There's a mind blowing amount of blogs around nowadays. Reading posts everyday can help you find inspiration for future posts, but not directly copy them. As well as that, commenting on posts and complimenting other bloggers will help you feel involved and connected within the blogging community; the more the merrier!

2. As soon as an idea enters your mind, note it down! Include some detail about what you want to include in that post so you don't forget. Once it's on paper or on your phone, it's there for you to start working on.

3. Drink water. This may seem like an odd tip; but if you're healthy, you'll feel more motivated. Your brain needs water, it helps to keep your creativity levels high as your brain works better when you're hydrated.

4. Write a post you're happy with, don't just write for the sake of it. You'll never get that motivation back if you don't fully believe in yourself and your content.

5. Talk to people. Ask your followers for requests, find out what your audience would like to read. Tweet other bloggers (I have a post about blogger chats coming up soon), some of them might be feeling the same way and some might have more advice for you. You could even talk to friends and family, they might have some suggestions and advice for you as well. Once you let your thoughts out, you might feel refreshed and ready to start over without a rain cloud over your head.

6. If you find yourself stressing about your lack of motivation, just stop altogether and take a break. Give your brain a chance to relax and refresh, your followers will understand. Sometimes us bloggers get too overworked, we need to be nice to ourselves! Also, don't force yourself to think of ideas, let them come naturally.

7. Think positive and stay calm.

8. Keep in mind that inspiration can come from anywhere!

Whether you're a blogger or not, how do you keep motivated?
